gOgirl Program

The gOgirl Program was started by gO Orthopedics in 2015, as a mountain biking program for Gunnison Valley female youth. Now in its fourth year, the program falls under the gO Initiative, a 501c3 Colorado Corporation intended to educate, inspire and develop athletes of all ages and abilities in mountain sports. As with other gO Initiative programs, we provide financial support and opportunities to optimize a strong body and mind through functional fitness, healthy lifestyle guidance and achievement. The gOgirl Program has always focused on developing confidence both on and off the trails by giving them the resources they need to not only become a successful competitive or non-competitive athlete, but also a successful member of our community or any community in which they interact.

  • Gunnison – Tuesdays and Thursdays beginning June 11 – August 15
  • Crested Butte (in conjunction with CBMR Mountain Sports Team) – Mondays and Wednesdays beginning June 10
The two programs are separate of each other and very much different in what they offer, yet very similiar in the approach, goals and premise. The Gunnison program is quite varied in terms of activities (mountain biking, hiking, swimming, yoga, nutrition classes, etc.) yet the overall focus is still to develop proper skills both on and off the bike, injury prevention and of course FUN. The majority of the kids in our Gunnison program are ages 7-12.
At the upper end of the valley, we have partnered with CBMR’s mountain sports team, two days/week with all female riders and coaches. CBMR is known for their robust program for the boys- in bringing the gOgirl approach to this program, we create lasting relationships with other female riders and mentoring by female coaches which we feel improves confidence both on and off the trails. In addition, the ability to ride lifts and not have to focus on the uphill every ride is a huge bonus since a lot of skill is obtained and learned without the added stresses of having to pedal your way to the top. There are also days that they ride cross country around other trails in the valley, so it’s not entirely focused on the downhill (or the uphill!). If you have a daughter that wants to ride with like-minded, goal-oriented females, this program is for you. The majority of the gals in the CB MST program are about 9-14.

The gOgirl premise is to develop confidence both on and off the bike. Both programs are centered around mountain bike handling and progression/skill, which are paralleled to life skills and goals. We also believe that nutrition, rest, injury prevention, proper hydration and bike maintenance are hugely important. Our hope for both programs is to love the mountain biking, the experience, hanging with girlfriends and developing healthy lifestyle habits for their entire lives.
