Fat Tire 40

FAT TIRE 40

It’s on – the Fat Tire 40 returns with the same epic 40 + mile course on legendary Crested Butte singletrack. Don’t miss out on this classic event!

The race took a hiatus in 2019 and is now back in 2020 better than ever. The event serves as a fundraiser for the gO Initiative and is sure to be a day on the bike you won’t forget. Race day is June 26, 2020 and circumnavigates Mt. Crested Butte on some of the best singletrack Crested Butte has to offer. JOIN US for a fun weekend of bicycle riding and the happy hour party of the summer!

 

Pre-Race Packet Pick Up & Registration

Friday June 26, 3:00 pm – 6:00 pm

There are buses that go between Crested Butte and Mt. Crested Butte every 20 minutes. Plan accordingly, don’t be late!!

Aid Stations

There will be two aid stations fully stocked with water, Kate’s Bars and energy drink. Please note: you will have to fill up your own water bottle.

 

  • Aid station #1 (mile 19.5) – Canal Trail at Brush Creek Road
  • Aid Station #2 (mile 32) – End of Deer Creek at Gothic Road

  • 8:00 am – Race start, Rainbow Park Pavillion in town
  • 2:00 pm – Awards, Rainbow Park Pavillion
  • 3:00 pm – Happy Hour and After Party, Rainbow Park Pavillion

 

AwardS, Beer + WHISKEY

Irwin Brewing and Coal Creek Distillery will be serving up some awesome beer, so come hang out, soak up the sun and enjoy a cold one!  We will start the awards as close to 2:00pm pm as possible and they’ll take place at Rainbow Park Pavillion. We will be grilling food all afternoon for race participants.

  • Neutral start (Police escort) from Rainbow Park up Whiterock to 1st Street; north on 1st, East on Elk Avenue to Gothic Road
  • Up Gothic Road towards Mt. CB – Race start after crossing Wash Gulch Road turnoff – Police car will speed up here.
  • Gothic Road to Hunter Hill Road (Mt. CB) Summit Road to the Upper Loop Trailhead
  • Upper Loop to Eleven Bridges to Upper Upper Loop to Brush Creek Road
  • Brush Creek Road (738.2a) to Strand Hill Climb
  • Strand Hill Singletrack (#556)
  • #556 to Canal Trail #408
  • #408 (Canal) to Brush Creek Road (738.2a)
  • Brush Creek Road to Deer Creek Trail (#568)
  • Deer Creek Trail to Gothic Road (#317)
  • Gothic Road to Meander (CBMR/Snodgrass TH)
  • Meander Trail West Side Trail – ½ mile of road in between the two
  • West Side Trail to San Moritz Trail
  • San Moritz Trail to Upper Loop for 2nd time
  • Upper Loop to Tony’s Trail
  • Down Tony’s to Town
  • On Elk Ave, turn right to Rainbow Park FINISH

 

Directions, Parking and Shuttles

The start and finish will take place in Rainbow Park Pavillion

From Denver- From Denver International Airport, take interstate 70 west, exit to highway 470 west, highway 285 south to Fairplay then Poncha Springs, highway 50 west to Gunnison, then highway 135 north into Crested Butte.

From Montrose- Take highway 50 east to Gunnison, then highway 135 north into Crested Butte

Parking There is a free parking lot located at Rainbow Park and the 4way stop.
