FAT TIRE 40

2021.. We think it’s ON! The Fat Tire 40 returns with a slightly different but still epic 40 + mile course on legendary Crested Butte singletrack. Don’t miss out on this classic event!

The race took a hiatus in 2020 due to Covid restrictions, and is now back in 2021 better than ever. The event serves as a fundraiser for the gO Initiative and is sure to be a day on the bike you won’t forget. Race day is June 26, 2021 and circumnavigates Mt. Crested Butte on some of the best singletrack Crested Butte has to offer. JOIN US for a fun weekend of bicycle riding and the happy hour party of the summer!

The Route (tentative):

  • Neutral start (police escort) from CBCS parking lot to Gothic Road
  • Up Gothic Road towards Mt. CB – Race starts after crossing Wash Gulch Road turnoff (police car will speed up here)
  • Gothic Road past the Ski Area, past Snodgrass TH.. road will turn to dirt
  • Follow downhill to Deer Creek 586 Road, turn right (just past bridge over the East River)
  • Follow road about 3/4 mile then turn left onto Deer Creek singletrack
  • Follow Deer Creek Trail to Deer Creek Road (582.1)
  • AID STATION
  • Turn left onto onto West Brush Creek Road (738.2a) to Teocalli Ridge Trail (#557)
  • Turn right back onto Brush Creek (738) Road
  • Turn left onto Farris (#736) Road, follow flagging to Strand Hill (#556) to Canal Trail (#408)
  • Turn left back onto Brush Creek (738) Road, back to HWY 135
  • Follow flagging back to Deli Trail, back to CBCS School (finish)

 

Neutral Start

There will be a neutral start at out of Crested Butte Community School at 8:00 AM. Official race starts when police escort turns off at Slate River Road.

 

Aid Stations

There will be two aid stations fully stocked with water, energy bars and energy drink. Please note, you will have to fill up your own water bottle.

  • Aid station #1 (mile 19) – Deer Creek Road/West Brush Y
  • Aid Station #2 (mile 31) – West Brush Creek Road, entrance to Strand climb

Directions, Parking and Shuttles

The start and finish will take place at the Crested Butte Community School

From Denver- From Denver International Airport, take interstate 70 west, exit to highway 470 west, highway 285 south to Fairplay then Poncha Springs, highway 50 west to Gunnison, then highway 135 north into Crested Butte.

From Montrose- Take highway 50 east to Gunnison, then highway 135 north into Crested Butte

Parking There is a free parking lot located at the CBMR base area.  Turn right off of Gothic rd/135 on Emmons Rd. and look to your right.  It is a dirt parking lot.

There are buses that go between Crested Butte and Mt. Crested Butte every 20 minutes. Plan accordingly, don’t be late!!
