NEW: Progressive SHRED Camps

This program is designed to provide a supportive environment for U14 riders to explore and develop their mountain biking skills on the trails of Gunnison County.

Our New SHRED Camps are dedicated to supercharging kids’ biking skills in a fun and engaging way! Our innovative approach combines specific trail sessions with targeted skill development, focusing on techniques like cornering, tech riding, braking, and bike/body separation.

Using a shuttle-based learning method, we maximize energy for focused training, allowing campers to experience rapid skill improvement. Our program recognizes that every child learns differently, so we cater to various styles, including kinesthetic (learning by doing), visual (learning by seeing), and social (learning with others) to ensure a rich and dynamic learning environment.

Each morning, campers come together for skill assessments and goal setting. Then, we hit the trails, where they can practice and showcase their newfound skills while being filmed to track their progress! Back at camp, we’ll break down the videos in our indoor lab, running drills and playing fun games that not only sharpen their skills but also foster a love for biking.

Join us at Shred Camps and watch your child soar on their biking journey!

TENTATIVE Weeks of June 9 & July 21

Vehicle-Assisted Trail Riding at Hartman Rocks

This is our intro-level camp. Riders must be able to ride a bike independently with the excitement and attitude of getting out and about around Gunnison. They are ready to gain experience on mountain bike trails and learn the fundamentals of biking.

At this stage, the focus is on building foundational skills and becoming comfortable on the bike.

  • Basic Bike Handling: Riders learn how to properly handle the bike, including how to shift gears, use the brakes, and maintain balance.
  • Smooth Trails: Beginners usually start on flat, easy trails with minimal obstacles, learning how to ride with control and stability.
  • Body Position: Understanding the correct riding posture (slightly bent elbows and knees, weight centered over the bike) is key for better control.
  • Handling Simple Obstacles: Beginners may encounter small rocks, roots, or minor inclines, but the focus remains on maintaining control and smooth riding.

Minimum Requirements:

  • Can ride a bike, steer and brake independently
  • 24″ wheels or larger
  • Hand brakes
  • Range of gears

INTERMEDIATE
(U14)

TENTATIVE Week of June 16 & July 28

Vehicle-Assisted Trail Riding at Hartman Rocks

At the intermediate level, riders can handle a variety of trail features and ride with more confidence. With further practice and refinement of their skills, they will continue to develop and eventually advance to more advanced techniques and terrain.

As riders gain more experience and confidence, they begin to take on more challenging terrain and technical features.

  • Trail Variety: Riders progress to trails with moderate inclines, uneven terrain, and minor obstacles like larger rocks, roots, and tight corners.
  • Improved Technique: Intermediate riders work on refining techniques such as cornering, braking (front and rear brake use), and navigating technical sections like switchbacks.
  • Climbing & Descending: They become comfortable with more challenging climbs and descents, learning to shift body position for better traction and control.
  • Jumping & Drop-offs: At this stage, riders may begin practicing small jumps, drop-offs, and learning how to absorb shocks from obstacles to maintain stability.
  • Bike Handling in Off-Camber Terrain: Riders start to learn how to manage riding on sloped, off-camber sections where balance and precision are key.
