This camp is open to ALL levels of participants, and we welcome those of you planning on racing the Grand Traverse.
Participants will be introduced to techniques that make uphill skiing more enjoyable and efficient – kick turns, boot packs, and transition tricks. A portion of the camp will focus on downhill ski technique on lift accessed terrain, and another portion will be devoted to acquiring efficient skating ability on skimo gear. Forums will cover race day strategies on nutrition and hydration, partner dynamics, technical gear use, and avalanche awareness.
While parts of this camp will focus on race fitness and skill sets specific to the Grand Traverse, we welcome all abilities to participate in this experience! By offering instruction in both skimo fundamentals and race coaching, our goal is to nurture a passion for this sport, while providing an accelerated pathway to athletes seeking a competitive advantage.
Our 3-day Academy will include instruction from past Grand Traverse winners, US Skimo Team Members, and gO Orthopedics Athletes and Ambassadors. Each day these world-class coaches will offer new skill lessons & techniques; helpful training, nutrition and injury prevention tips; introduction to the newest, cutting edge gear in ski mountaineering; and incredible adventures in the breathtaking surrounding West Elks. We will introduce participants to techniques that make skiing uphill more enjoyable and efficient with kick turns, boot packs, gear tips and tricks, training programs and nutrition. We will work on downhill skiing technique with lift-accessed terrain and one afternoon will be dedicated to working on skate technique, which is a key skill for the Grand Traverse race (in the case that you are signed up for this challenge!). Our coaching staff will show you all this + so much more!
